Award for Project Excellence presented to Air Fiji

On 24 May 2005 President Ray Paris presented the Award for Project excellence to Shaenaz Voss, Air Fiji. The Rotary Club of Suva North received this award at the Combined Centennial Conference in Rotorua 28 April –1 May 2005 after nomination by Assistant District Governor Jai Maharaj in recognition of the Air Fiji Children’s Day held last year. To those of you who were there you will recall the emotion of the day as we flew 180 underprivileged children over Suva with them entertaining us through the day. Our principal sponsor was Air Fiji who made this memorable event possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vice President accepts honorary membership

On 17 May 2005 His Excellency Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, Vice President of Fiji Islands accepted honorary membership of Rotary Suva North during an induction ceremony conducted by President Ray Paris at the Tiri Restaurant, School of Hospitality, Fiji Institute of Technology, Nasese. Ratu Joni was also guest speaker and provided a comprehensive analyses of the role of the Vice President within the Constitution. We look forward to including the full text of this presentation shortly. in addition to the Vice President, the club was honored by the presence of Brigadier General George Konrote, formerly the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Force Commander of UN peacekeeping operations in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Australia Supports Rotuma Hospital Project

On 9 May 2005 Acting Australian High Commissioner, Richard Ryan, announced a financial contribution of some $14,000 towards the cost of the Rotuma Hospital Refurbishment project being undertaken by the Rotary Club of Suva North. The financial assistance will ensure that the refurbishment work being undertaken by volunteers from Rotary Club of Suva North (RSCN) and its sister club in Dural, NSW will enhance the hospital's ability to offer Rotumans hospital and medical facilities in a safe, healthy and pleasant environment.

RCSN offers its sincere appreciation to both the Australian Government and its sister Club of Dural who have also provided financial assistance as well as human resources to undertake the work in Rotuma.

Rotary Suva North Cricket Team

Rotary Suva North Club Cricket team and the Fiji Defence Club played a half day match at Albert Park on Sunday 10 April 2005. In in closely contested and exciting match, Rotary won thanks to the winning hit of Atu Siwatibau, the sustained batting of Shaheen Asgar and the excellent all round playing of the other team members. Rotary looks forward to this being a regular event with the Defence Club. Many thanks to Past President Peter Knight for organising this sporting event that builds cooperation among two long standing clubs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rotary Gives Computers to Needy Institutions

Four needy institutions have received a number of computers thanks to the Rotary Club of Suva North.
 
The computers changed hands at the Club luncheon of the Rotary Club on Tuesday 22nd March, 2005.
 
The recipients were the Navesi Primary School, the Children's Library of Suva City Council, the Chevalier Hostel, and the Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre for People with Disabilities.
 
President of the Rotary Club of Suva North, Ray Paris, said that the Rotary Club was very pleased to support these institutions who are themselves doing such good work with the youth and the disadvantaged.

President Paris went on to say that the computers will now empower even more good work to be done to assist this venerable sector of the community.

Prime Minister accepts honorary membership

Hon. Laisenia Qarase, Prime Minister of Fiji Islands, accepted honorary membership of Rotary Suva North on 24 November 2004 during an induction ceremony conducted by President Ray Paris at the Fiji Club. It was acknowledged by all present at the event that the club was honored to have such a distinguished new member.
